Brownstone Brooklyn tour: From Park Slope to Brooklyn Heights

NOTE: This tour is available only to prebooked groups.

This combines major segments of the Brooklyn 101 tour and the Fort Greene & Clinton Hill tours. It also includes a look at the area planned for Frank Gehry's new basketball arena and housing/office development. (Again, it is *not* a tour of house interiors.)

The tour lasts 4-5 hours, depending on whether we stop for a snack or lunch. The price varies depending on the size of the group. We can meet at a subway station or the Brooklyn Public Library's Central Library (see
Brooklyn 101 tour.)

We meet in the area of Brooklyn's magnificent Grand Army Plaza, the psychic center of Brooklyn. We visit Prospect Park, considered more magnificent than Olmsted & Vaux's Central Park. We then explore the mansions and row houses of leftish, literary Park Slope, Brooklyn's old Gold Coast.

We subway to a Brooklyn crossroads in nearby Fort Greene and explore this fascinating neighborhood (arts, black culture) and its neighbor, Clinton Hill. If we start early in the morning, we'll stop for a snack. Otherwise, we can stop for lunch; options include The Smoke Joint and Junior's (famous for its cheesecake).

We then traverse the institutional heart of downtown Brooklyn, the public buildings, offices, and plazas bordering Brooklyn Heights. From there, we stroll through the Heights, the city's first historic district. We visit the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, with glorious views of the Manhattan skyline, see Brooklyn's most famous church, and end at Fulton Ferry. T
here are numerous options for refreshments, including the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, Grimaldi's Pizzeria (coal-fired brick oven!), and Jacques Torres Chocolate.
